There’s a face people make when they read our menu and get to “cracked pepper shortbread.” It’s the same face every single time. A little frown, a quick look at whoever they came with, and then, usually, they pick the chocolate chip.
We’ve thought about taking it off the menu. We’re not going to, and here’s why.
The pepper is coarse, there isn’t much of it, and it’s cracked instead of ground, so you get little bright bites of it instead of a spicy background hum. The shortbread underneath is the plainest thing we make, which is kind of the point. One simple cookie with one fun idea in it.
The folks who make the face and try one anyway? They come back for more. It happens so often we’ve stopped being surprised.
